There are many groups, public school foundations, local communities doing great things to support public education; but they can't fill all the gaps.

Each year, school supply drives help. And each year, the list of names grows. We need to find a sustainable solution and grow from pencils and paper to laptops so public school students are equipped to compete.

In Colorado

The number of free and reduced lunch eligible students is growing. Especially with the economy. This is a tracking mechanism for students in need. They will do better when they are equipped with the basic tools for success.

• 65% of Denver Public Schools' students
• 63.4% of Aurora Public Schools' students
• About 25% of Jeffco Public Schools' students
• Not to mention in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Longmont, Golden, Collbran, and throughout Colorado's rural and inner cities.

$120 is the average amount a student will need to spend on school supplies. (Six people giving $20 each will fulfill this need).

$20 to $50 is the average cost of a scientific calculator that a high school student needs.

$1500 to $2000 is the average amount a public school teacher pays out of their own pocket for school supplies for their students or their classroom.

People rise and excel when others believe in them. Let's show our public school students in need that we believe they are capable and give them the tools to excel.

The Power of Six Fund will do its utmost to raise $1,000,000 this summer, six people at a time, to give back to you so you can outfit students in need with supplies.

If all goes well, we'll post the process for grant applications by mid-August.
